Historical walk to the rampart site Hegnesgaffuel
Experience a guided walk where you’ll get a real feel for the history of the site and the origins of Hindsgavl Castle. You’ll hear tales of the kings who lived here from the 13th century right up to the Absolute Monarchy. Christian IV, who built it; Frederick III, who lost it; and the Swedes, who exploited the winter frost to cross over – only to be forced to turn back and hand over cannons as spoils of war.
Along the way, we’ll walk through the countryside looking for traces of everyday life at the castle: the remains of the old pier, the disappearance of the ramparts, and the little myths associated with the area. Mette, our guide, weaves the stories together and shows you places you wouldn’t otherwise discover.
The walk takes place across meadows and uneven terrain and ends in the atmospheric rooms of Hindsgavl Castle, where coffee and cake are served.
